Cuandixia Ancient Village is located in Mentougou District, about 90 kilometers from downtown Beijing. It is also called a "living fossil" with over 400 years of history. Today, more than 70 courtyards with approximately 500 rooms are well-preserved. They were built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). In the Qing Dynasty, it was a prosperous distribution center for merchants and goods. Many cultural relics are retained, such as ancient inscriptions and frescoes, the ruins from World War II, the slogans of the Anti-Japanese period, the relics of the "Cultural Revolution" (1966-1976), and numerous ancient paths, water wells, temples, and theatrical stages, etc.
