Overview

The Simatai Great Wall is situated in Miyun County, about 140 kilometers northeast of urban Beijing. First built in 1368, totaling 19 kilometers long, Simatai was constructed along the natural contour of steep mountains and divided into two parts by the Simatai reservoir. All the features of the Great Wall have found their finest expressions in the Simatai section, with its five unique characters known to the world as “perilous, dense (many watchtowers), unique, ingenious and more varieties.”

Itinerary
Day 1Simatai Great Wall Tour

8:00 Pick up from the hotel lobby and drive to the Simatai Great Wall (about 2.5 hours driving).


10:30 Exploring the Gubei Water Town.  Taste traditional processing local rice wine in Sima Brewery, learn how to make the original ecological dyeing in Yongshun Dyeing House， experience the school life of ancient scholars in Yinghua Academy, worship the soldiers who devote to guarding the Great Wall in the Yang Wudi ancestral hall and studying the ancient bodyguard culture in Henyuan Bodyguard Bureau, etc.  Your guide will assist you in finding a nice restaurant to have lunch at your own cost .


Then, arrive at the foot of the Simatai Great Wall.  You can either walk or take the cable car (at your own cost) up to the fifth watchtower, from there, you can start your Great Wall hiking. Altogether there are ten watchtowers opened in this section. You can bring some snacks or sandwiches for lunch on the wall or get a suggestion from your guide to eat in a local restaurant.
